In 2011, they took a different slant on the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton by launching a beer called “Arise Prince Willy”, which was advertised as “stirring the loins of newlywed princes”. People who bought the shares received other benefits, such as discounts in BrewDog bars and when they purchased the beers online. They were also invited to attend the annual shareholders’ meeting. The company founders’ entrepreneurial spirit has helped to rocket BrewDog to success. In 2011, they offered crowdfunding shares totalling £2 million, equating to 8% of the capital of the company, to raise money. Determined to succeed, they went to another lender and managed to negotiate what they described as an “amazing deal”.

The firm sold shares to 220,000 customers through a crowdfunding round at £25 per share, which raised £7.5 million and gave the firm a market cap of £1.8 billion. ‘Real’ Living Wage rates increase by 10% again

In addition to its breweries, BrewDog has upwards of 90 bars around the world. How does Brewdog make money?

This does not change the fact that BrewDog will have expected the media spotlight to be on its business in light of this decision. However, the Trades Union Congress (TUC) doesn’t buy that narrative and has criticised BrewDog on social media platform X, sharing a satirical video that declares “BrewDog can afford to open 200 new locations around the world but won’t pay its staff properly”. Cutting pay will, per the CEO, help bring financial stability.

Why is BrewDog doing this?
